EKU SBDC Client Success Story: Mustard Tree Counseling
Our latest client success story comes to us from Mustard Tree Consulting. The husband and wife team of Tony and Darcy Miller have opened a counseling service to support children, teens, and their families with substance abuse, depression, family relationships, and developmental disorders.
The Millers have been licensed professional counselors for the past 16 years in the mental health care setting. They both felt that it was time for them to create an alternative resource for children and their families to receive counseling services and are excited about the opportunity to provide counseling services by utilizing previous therapeutic experience joined with innovative and creative methods.
The Millers came to see Michael Rodriguez at the EKU SBDC-Richmond office to receive information about funding and how to navigate how to start their own business. "The SBDC was a wonderful resource to help us start and kept us from making big mistakes in regards to business." In less than two months, they were able to secure a business loan, create the S-Corp, find and establish an office space, and reach out to other counselors, public officials, and social workers.
Rodriguez was able to help them work through all of the documentation, legal, and financial issues associated with starting the business. He was also very helpful with networking and promoting the business with others. "I always walked out of his office or off the phone with Michael and felt like we really could do it - we could really start our own business and be successful at it!"
Mustard Tree Consulting officially opened on October 1 and is now accepting appointments.
